About Us
Our Partnership with Burroughs
Wellcome Fund (Bwf) & bASF
The North Carolina Society of Hispanic Professionals (NCSHP) received grant support from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund and BASF. These funds allowed our organization to increase interest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) careers and positively impact career awareness and decision-making among Hispanic youth across North Carolina.
Through this collaboration, the NCSHP focused on increasing diversity and inclusive representation of Hispanic students in STEAM fields. Our efforts aimed to build a strong pipeline of Hispanic students engaged in STEAM education and preparing for future careers in these areas.
To achieve this, we implemented several culturally responsive strategies and activities, one of the most significant being the launch of the “Tu Portal STEM” portal on the NCSHP website. This platform was created to inspire and engage Hispanic students by connecting them to STEAM learning opportunities.
As part of our outreach, we provided students and their families with accessible information about local and statewide STEAM programs. These included:

Opportunities funded by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund through their Science Student Enrichment Program

In-school, afterschool, and summer STEAM programs

Support for navigating the NC STEM Center website (ncstemcenter.org), with a focus on resources for Spanish-speaking parents.
In addition, we launched a STEM Spanish Hotline hosted at the NCSHP headquarters, offering direct assistance and information in Spanish to support families navigating STEAM-related resources.
Through these initiatives, we successfully empowered Hispanic youth with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to explore, engage, and thrive in STEAM education and careers.

What is STEM?
