The NCSHP invites you to join us for the many exciting events the Society holds throughout the year. From the Hispanic Educational Summit to our Quarterly Meet & Greets, our events engage the community, raise awareness IMG_1368 - Copyabout current issues, and promote Hispanic Education. These events are designed to accomplish several things. First, our events provide members a chance to network and build relationships. Second, they reach out to non-members and allow individuals new to the NCSHP to learn more about what the Society does and help get them involved. Third, our events engage the community and help invest in and equip Hispanic students and their families to help our Latino youth reach their full educational potential. The various events we hold throughout the year often focus on one or more of these areas, but the end goal of every event we hold is the same:

Promote Latino Education… Shape the Future!

In addition to the events held by the NCSHP and our partner organizations, we also provide a platform to announce events that are of interest to the Hispanic community throughout North Carolina. If you have questions about any of the programs listed below or would like us to include an upcoming event, please contact us at

Adventures in Biotechnology- Flyer

The Biogen Community Lab in Research Triangle Park, NC is hosting a week-long Adventures in Biotechnology free summer lab program for high school students. Applications open on February 24th and close on March 11th. Visit our website for program details and application. Please forward the information to any student or teacher that may be interested.

At Biogen’s Adventures in Biotechnology you will conduct a hands-on lab project, meet and interact with scientists and other biotech professionals and get an inside view of a biotech company! You will learn about the drug development process while also learning and doing a series of biotech laboratory techniques. Each day will focus on lab work, but there will also be opportunities to hear from and speak with employees from a wide range of departments. The laboratory component for most of our sessions will focus on modifying DNA in order to produce and purify green fluorescent protein! To accomplish this, you will learn and do the following techniques: bacterial transformation, site-directed mutagenesis, protein extraction, affinity purification and PAGE. But don’t worry if you are not familiar with these lab techniques – that’s what you will learn during the program!

Open to high school students currently in 9th – 12th grade.

  • Session I:  June 15 – 19
  • Session II: July 6 – 10
  • Session III: July 20 – 24
