Hispanic Educational Fair 

Our Hispanic Education Fair is for parents, students, and children who are interested in how to better their life and their child’s life through education.

HISPANIC EDUCATIONAL SUMMIT 2009 PIC 2The Hispanic Education Parent Fair is an initiative of the NCSHP to promote and disseminate information on the benefits of formal and higher education among the Hispanic youth of North Carolina.  This event is focused on reaching out to the parents of Hispanic Students in North Carolina in order to provide them with the tools and information to help their kids through school and encourage them to pursue higher education.

Parent Fair Objectives:

  • Inform Hispanic parents of North Carolina of the importance of staying in school and the importance of a college education
  • Equip Hispanic parents with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the NC School System and keep their child on the path to college
  • Provide training and resources on household methods and practices that can be used to supplement student learning and therefore improve academic success

Fair Highlights

Session topics for the Fair include but are not limited to:

  • How to navigate the Public School System and Common Core
  • College admission and course requirements
  • Educational opportunities at the community college, private college, and public university level
  • The benefits of bilingualism in the workplace
  • Financial aid options for college including FAFSA
  • Community, private and state college exhibitors provide resources about their college and the application process.

Feature Presentations

Panel Discussion on College Admission/Course Requirements (English) –
The audience will learn about educational opportunities at the community college, private college, and public university.  Speakers will explain the differences between these institutions and will describe their respective admissions processes, programs, and resources.

Financial Aid Options for College, including FAFSA (English)
This workshop will explain financial aid
options for college, including FAFSA and scholarship options.

The Power of Bilingualism in Education and Work
This workshop will discuss the positive impact that bilingualism has on the brain and the education and professional opportunities that open up when you are bilingual.

College 101: Introduction to College Admission –
Inform students and parents about the college admission process.  Participants will receive information about understanding the common application, tips on writing college essays and getting recommendation letters, and on what colleges are looking for in transcripts and test scores.

Panel de Discusión sobre Admisión a la Universidad / Cursos Requeridos (Español) –
La audiencia aprenderá sobre las oportunidades educativas disponibles en los community college, la universidad privada y la universidad pública.  Los presentadores discutirán las diferencias entre las isntituciones y darán información sobre los procesos de admisión y programas disponibles.

Opciones de ayuda financiera para la universidad, incluyendo FAFSA (Español)
En este taller se explicarán las opciones de ayuda financiera para la universidad, incluyendo FAFSA y opciones de becas.

El Poder del Bilinguismo en la Educación y el Trabajo (Español)  –
En este taller se discutirá el impacto positivo que tiene en el cerebro el cultivar la habilidad de ser bilingüe y las oportunidades que esto trae en la educación y a nivel profesional. 

Como Navegar el Sistema Escolar (Español) – 
En este taller se explicará a los padres y alumnos cómo navegar el sistema escolar en Carolina del Norte, explicará a los padres a involucrarse en la educación de sus hijos y explicará cuáles son sus derechos dentro del sistema escolar.

Clave al Éxito (Español) –
En este taller se presentará una guía para involucrarse en las diferentes etapas de la educación de sus hijos, seguir su progreso, comunícarse con sus maestros, y prepararlos para triunfar en la universidad y en el mundo laboral.
