Volunteer Opportunities

The NCSHP is a non-profit organization driven by our volunteer base. Individuals passionate about their community and giving back are invited to join us and be a part of what we’re doing through volunteering.

Below are some of our current volunteer opportunities. Please review the volunteer opportunities and sign-up to be a part of one of our events!


 Ritmo Latino Festival Presented by Diamante

13087921_10154237750823982_6506924748514259929_nRitmo Latino Festival is an event presented by Diamante INC, is an organization dedicated to the preservation, development, and promotion of the culture, heritage, and artistic expressions of the diverse Latino/Hispanic population in North Carolina. Ritmo Latino is a free family festival that showcases Latino music, dance and arts. The festival includes live music, vendors, artists, Latin foods, dance lessons for adults and activities for children.

The Festival will be on May 13 from 12:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The event will be held in downtown Cary at: 316 N. Academy St., Cary, NC 27513. Volunteer roles for this event include interacting with families and manning the NCSHP booth.

Fiesta for Education! Presented by Jóvenes para Ayudar13255986_10154239700858982_5604735877855783319_n

Fiesta for education is an event presented by Jóvenes para Ayudar, a nonprofit organization for students interested in getting involved in the Hispanic community. The Fiesta for Education is an awareness event held each spring to promote Hispanic education and raise funds for scholarships in a show of peer support for graduating seniors. In the past two years, they have raised over $6,000 for education.

The Fiesta will be on May 20 during the early to mid-afternoon. Volunteer roles for this event include interacting with students and manning the NCSHP booth. More details on this event to come!

Ongoing Activities

Event Volunteer
We are seeking event volunteers to help put on various events throughout the year.Volunteer roles range from interacting with families and manning the NCSHP booth to assisting with AV to event registration to serving as a facilitator.

Mentoring – Grades 5 through 12
We are seeking Hispanic professionals to mentor Hispanic students in grades 5-12. Committed mentors will be matched to students based on compatibility. We request that mentors commit to volunteering 8 to 10 hours per month.

Tutoring  – Grades 9 through 12
We are seeking volunteers to participate as tutors to Hispanic/Latino students high school during the school year. Volunteers in will offer one-to-one tutoring to help Hispanic students in various school subjects, as well as provide guidance and support in general.  We are specifically seeking tutors for our ¡Gradúate! Program.

Inspirational Speakers Group
We are seeking motivated Hispanic professionals to visit local schools and deliver presentations related to varying topics from “My Life” to “How to Stay in School”. Members should have experience working with children or with presenting to large groups. We are specifically seeking inspirational speakers for our ¡Gradúate! Program, but we have additional speaking opportunities available.

Newsletter / Editorial Committee
We are seeking new members to join our newsletter committed to help put our quarterly/semiannual newsletter together. This group participates  meetings related to design and editing of the newsletter. Topics will be provided. Strong communication and writing skills are preferred.

Information Technology
We are seeking volunteers to help with website and IT support. We are specifically seeking individuals to help update the NCSHP website, as well as individuals who are interested in volunteering in audio-visual at various events throughout the year.

Focus Groups
We are seeking volunteers to serve on focus groups to develop innovative ways to help Hispanic students.

We are seeking individuals who are committed to student’s rights to a higher education for visits to the General Assembly, organization of petitions and more.

Fundraising Committee
We are seeking a group of people to help with grant writing and fundraising. This group meets several times a year to update on progress and to brainstorm new fundraising opportunities.
